A few samples from the recent campaign for Sydney designer Sara Afonso... Summer 2010/2011 range for Amilita. We shot this in a dirty, baron, seldom used part of the southern reaches of Benoa Harbour in Bali, with a handful of washed-up fishermen and Navy training cadets as onlookers.

I'm very lucky. I get paid to take photographs of amazing people doing amazing things in amazing parts of the world.
I'm kinda unlucky sometimes too.
Sitting on the back of a jetski, I got hit in the face with a 12ft inflatable doughnut, sending 2-day old sunglasses sinking to the bottom of the ocean. I would have saved them had it not been for the fact I was struggling to not drown, with a sarong tangled around my neck and face, and my right arm attempting to launch from a metre underwater with some nice camera gear attached to it.
Lucky, because I survived, dent-free. The doughnut was soft. And the three kids on the back of it were not injured. And only the one woman bumped her head on the nose of the jetski as she was sent flying off the doughnut. And the jetski driver never lost his spectacles. Lucky.
Drowning the camera was a fraction ulucky though, especially becasue it was Day 0 of a 10-Day surf charter boat trip.
Luckily, I was able to use a replacement camera to get the job done. Got some great shots for a while there.
Up until Day 8 when I had a bit of bad luck, with an unexplainable water housing leak rinsing the replacement camera, sendering it into a comatosed-type state. Unusable, very close to death. It has a pulse, but is definately not breathing...
Bad luck? Karma? Omen?
Just another one to add to the list.
'That takes my total to six, in five years" I told Dorris, the luxury catamaran's 1st Mate. "Three stolen, and three drowned".
"You should get one of the plastic waterproof ones with 24shots on it" said Dorris. Dry, sarcastic, a little cryptic, and classicaly humourous.
"I had one of them about 10 years ago" I said. "Fell out of my shirt when we pulled the chute, about 10000ft above Cape Town" I remenisced for a moment then came back to the present. "Guess that makes it seven then" I said.
Unlucky? I'm still going, another camera is coming, sometime, somehow, someway.
Lucky.
